Saleyha Ahsan won a place on the 2007 Bridging the Gap scheme run by the Scottish Documentary Institute which resulted in her short film, My Mother's Daughter.

The film won Best European Film at the Pangea Film Festival in Los Angeles - a TED backed festival created by Oscar nominated director Jehane Noujaim (The Square, 2013).

It also won Best International Film at the Parvani Etesami Film Festival, Tehran 2009.
